Charity rocks out for mental health
19 Jan 2010

Mental health charity Gofal Cymru is getting ‘ready to rock' at the end of the month after teaming up with one of Swansea's top live music venues for a fundraising gig.

Milkwood Jam has kindly donated the use of its venue on Saturday 30th January in what is promised to be a great night of live music and fundraising.

Drawing in the crowds will be two of Swansea's best covers bands; Breakdown, featuring the amazing vocals of Nia Morgan; and The Underdogs, who have been making a name for themselves as songwriters under the alias of The Neon Wolves.

Completing the line up is the leading Welsh poet/playwright Patrick Jones.  Patrick is taking time out of a busy schedule to support Gofal Cymru and help raise the profile of mental ill health.  His latest album of poetry and music, ‘tongues for a stammering time'  (May 2009), features collaborations with James Dean Bradfield, Billy Bragg, Amy Wadge, Steve Balsamo and Patrick's brother Nicky Wire of the Manic Street Preachers.

All the proceeds from the gig will go towards supporting people experiencing mental ill health in Wales.

Gofal Cymru Executive Director, Ewan Hilton, said: "We're really looking forward to the gig at Milkwood Jam.  It's a great venue and we have three excellent acts that will keep everyone entertained.  We will also be raffling signed memorabilia from Welsh bands such as the Manic Street Preachers.

"By purchasing a ticket for the gig, you will be showing your support for the one in four people who experience mental ill health, plus you'll witness a top night of live music."
